Say "YES" to more arts & culture in the States
Can I also just say in reference to my last post about Wayne McGregor’s premiere of “Infra” on BBC2 - where is America on this sort of programming?
The BBC made a documentary as a lead up to and then provided anyone with a television in the UK the opportunity to watch the piece in its entirety - taking the viewers through the creative/workshop programme into the actual...
An “Oyster card” for the arts, giving free or cheap entry to events...
– I was worried about Boris Johnson assuming the position of Mayor - Ken Livingston had done so much to enliven the cultural life of London - but this is a good move by Johnson.
Reduced and/or free entry to many of the insitutions and events would further enliven the arts/culture. I will say though...
Light and Space III, Robert Irwin @ MCASD
Hadn’t heard of this Irwin piece until I was reading Tyler Green’s blog today.
More on the permanent installation here.
Love the idea of actually being able to move through a piece on these escalators but then being able to stand at a distance. I also like the idea of some kids experiencing this and just thinking it was a cool lighting trick and not realizing the amount of...
Visionaire 55 SURPRISE by Black Frame →
The new Visionaire looks absolutely fantastic - it’s a very very sophisticated pop-up book. Can’t wait for more photographs.
KEHINDE WILEY’S “DOWN” AT DIETCH PROJECTS via... →
Would very much love to see these works in person. It was a bit of a return to Art100/the first half of my Janson to try and figure out the pieces being referenced by the new works. Supertouch made it easier for us all.
Baryshnikov Arts Center
Really interesting interviews with the BAC’s Executive Director Stanford Makishi at WNYC’s blog discussing topics such as fundraising for a capital campaign during an economic downturn (I feel his pain daily!), the future and model for performing arts centers, and how to effectively manage a PAC during this tough time (without sacrificing the art).
There’s a great profile on...

Haters stay away. I really look forward to my weekly lifestyle installment from Gwyneth Paltrow - it’s fashion, it’s food (you know I love to eat!), it’s travel…. etc etc etc. I just love it.
You can subscribe too! DO IT… (no one has to know).
I think ever since seeing Gwyneth in “On the Road … Again!” I have a new found appreciation for her.

– This is so sad. According to the article, it’s last day of business will be November 30. Where will I go to buy my Abitare? my occasional French Vogue (when they still have them in stock)? All international publications? The Economist? C’mon - I purposely don’t shop @ Harvard COOP...
I’m a huge fan of Carine Rotfield. My quest for a reliable source for French Vogue in Boston continues. Great shots from nymag by Hedi Slimane.
Sidenote: How much would I love this dress?
Broad Decides to Build His Own Museum (NYT) →
Not too many months after the Broad Wing of LACMA opened, it sounds like Eli Broad will be building his own museum not too far from LACMA. I think depsite all of the controversy and gossip surrounding Broad’s relationship to LACMA and the control of his collection - the biggest benefit will be to LA residents and tourists who will gain even more access to he and his wife’s fanatastic...

Meet Yasmin Sewell
She’s the chief creative consultant @ Liberty in London (gasp! I miss this place…. it’s one of the few reasons I ever braved the drudgery and madness of Oxford Circus on the weekend!) I always pay attention to what she’s wearing - beautiful lines, perfect construction, and an incredible sense of color (not surprisingly!)

Simple Living Manifesto: 72 Ideas to Simplify Your... →
I’ve had the distinct urge to simplify things recently - easier said than done. This starter list of 72 things definitely gives me something to think about.
Nothing more beautiful than the well-curated life…. making sure everything that’s included is included for a reason and not being afraid to make room for change.
Good Advice →
Especially liked this one, “Ask questions. In almost every situation, you can instantly find relief by simply asking a question so that you stop making assumptions and discover the reality. Did someone miss a dinner reservation? Pick up the phone and call him or her and ask why. Stop worrying and find out the answer.”
