AMOROUS MUSINGS

discovery of the day

S. & I needed to escape the apartment this afternoon. Despite overcast, grey and cloud drenched skies, we strolled through town from Plainpalais over to the Paquis for a coffee at one of our favorites cafes in Geneva, La Vouivre.

Not until today did I ask the question, “qu’est-ce que ca veut dire, “la vouivre”?”

Une vouivre is the french word for a wyvern.

Does that help you? I was still left befuddled. And then there was wikipedia….

A wyvern is “a legendary winged reptilian creature with a dragon’s head, the hindquarters of a snake or lizard with two legs or none, and a barbed tail. Wyverns are mentioned in Dante’s Inferno (Canto XVII) as the body for one of his creatures in hell.”

So, now you know.
