Well-known, but absolutely beautiful.
An excerpt of Placido Domingo singing Nessun Dorma from Puccini’s Turandot.
When I interned at the Royal Opera House in London in 2005 I met Domingo and his wife in the elevator. He was dressed in full costume going to a full dress rehearsal of one of the operas in Wagner’s Ring Cycle (I sadly can’t recall which one). He had such an amazing presence about him - nothing but warmth.
He was working with one of the seamstresses to fashion a thick leather cuff to cover a braided bracelet that his granddaughter had made him. Domingo had told her that he wouldn’t take it off until it fell off and he wanted to make sure he didn’t lie to her.
He then asked me about my grandfather and if we were close. After sharing a story or two, we had both reached our destination.
It was one of the best days of my life meeting him and chatting with him casually in the elevator.
