People are increasingly discussing the potential ramifications of the economic slump (dare I say recession?) and its impacts on the philanthropic world. Although I realize that this represents a very very specific and unique gift - I think that families and foundations such as the Lauders are setting a standard for funding philanthropic endeavors independent of the market. Perhaps this will make us all think about giving less but still continuing to give to those institutions we care about.
