// Fourth Plinth Winners Announced//

Antony Gormley and Yinka Shonibare have been chosen as the next two artists to present their works on the Fourth Plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square. Neither of these two was my favorite (I really liked the Tracey Emin entry and Jeremy Deller)… but I’m interested to see them in person.

Part of me is a bit disappointed because I feel like London has had a ton of exposure to Gormley’s work in particular due to his recent retrospective at the Hayward Gallery and his life-sized sculptures which graced many of the rooftops of esteemed London institutions. In addition, Shonibare has been featured prominently with 2004’s Turner Prize nomination and a recent installation at the National Gallery. (Writer’s note: I really enjoyed all of the above installations and works.)

There can never be too much art, but I’m wondering if the role of the fourth plinth should be shifted to bring new/less prominent artists to the public’s attention.
