S and I watched “Waiting for Lightning” the other night. The documentary tells the story of pro-skateboarder Danny Way and his attempt (and ultimately success) at jumping over the Great Wall of China.

It is a really stunning, emotional portrait of a man living on the edge of his life, driving his sport to new unknown realities — told almost entirely by his family, friends, and managers. Way’s interviews play little role in moving the story line forward — and S tells me that pissed off some viewers, but we both agreed - it made the portrait of Danny Way even more touching.

It is a must see for everyone - fan of skateboarding or not, and a real testament to the kind of people who are pushing their bodies and minds into new territories.

As always, the interviews of Rodney Mullen, are a standout for me. (On that note, if you haven’t seen the Bones Brigade documentary - WATCH IT NOW!)
