Serota gets a job for life at the Tate – The Independent
Sir Nicholas Serota has been made a “permanent employee” of the Tate on the tails of his contract ending. Akbar notes that this is controversial for a number of reasons (one obviously being the purchase of Chris Offili’s work when he was on the Board of the Tate - as well as artist Jeremy Deller and also because it hasn’t received the approval of the PM).
On the positive side though Sir Serota has overseen the expansion of the Tate, increased accessibility & popularity of the galleries, and increased the visibility of modern art in the UK….
I’m sure there will be more coverage of this as the word gets around….
