Robert Caro's Op-Ed: Johnson’s Dream, Obama’s Speech (NYT, 8.28.08)

It really is a time to cry for America.

Cry tears of hope for the future.

Cry that the words Dr. King spoke back in the 60s, the legislation that’s been in place for years (thanks to the hard work of civil rights advocates and a pushy/amazing President from Texas), and the shifting voice of America actually REALIZES the true overarching nature of humanity - and EVERYONE’S right to the vote/participate/be heard/speak/ and the right to pursue happiness.

Robert Caro’s op-ed moved me to tears.

It’s America’s time to really truly cast off prejudices and bigotries - and to move forward in the 21st century united in a vision for a better world.
