Jonathan Griffin raises some compelling points in his post today surrounding the issue of increasingly brand-oriented art prizes and whether or not they are good for the artist/institution.
With innumberable opportunities for corporate sponsorship in any number of cultural institutions both in the States and abroad, there does need to be a more critical eye cast about for the real relevance of these monies (aside from good branding/press for the sponsor). The money is great for the art & sustainability of arts institutions - but is the art being at all compromised by the money??
