An “Oyster card” for the arts, giving free or cheap entry to events and venues, could be handed out to Londoners under plans announced by the Mayor today.
I was worried about Boris Johnson assuming the position of Mayor - Ken Livingston had done so much to enliven the cultural life of London - but this is a good move by Johnson.
Reduced and/or free entry to many of the insitutions and events would further enliven the arts/culture. I will say though that many of London’s art institutions are already free - but perhaps that isn’t as important as the message that London sends to the world with this proposal.
Make art easy for people to access and make it free - they will come.
