Opera lovers are to get the chance to go behind the scenes of Puccini’s La bohème next month when a television channel broadcasts from the front and the back of the stage simultaneously.

I wish I could see this program on television. Not sure that this sort of simulcast will truly aid in “democratizing” opera, but I do think that this “back of house” access is the sort of creative thinking that will allow opera to take hold in a new generation of culture lovers.

This sort of programming really appeals to me - but I’m also the type of person who loves watching documentaries on the installation of artwork in new museums or the creation and staging of plays and ballets.

I’d be interested to hear anyone’s opinions on the show in the UK.

FYI - The production is being put on by the English National Opera (ENO).
