Brandeis University’s president, seeking to quell an uproar over a plan to close its art museum, appeared to back away from plans to sell its $350 million collection, telling alumni that the school planned to sell “only a limited number” of pieces “if the need arises in the future.

President Jehuda Reinharz has certainly made his place in history.

After his unbelievably bad announcement of Brandeis’ plans to close the Rose Art Museum (handled with very little finesse, and a lack of detail which only worsened a blow to the art world), he is now back pedaling like no one else.

It will take a new president to restore faith in the University.
