Instead of being a venue for one-off flying visits by orchestras, the Barbican said it wants to change the dynamic and develop more lasting relationships with organisations that it today names as international associates.
The Barbican is introducing a new model for performance venues - creating residencies for some of the world’s most renowned orchestras; creating a much stronger relationship between audience, institution, and performer - and moving well away from the touring model many orchestras utilize in their summer seasons.
This summer also marks the launch of “Barbican Big Summer” which promises to bring new vitality to the Barbican’s East London neighborhood (enlivening an area the way that the South Bank Center’s “Watch this Space” has done)…
Also, no article involving orchestras these days is complete without a Gustavo Dudamel shout-out. That’s just a fact.
