There is a way to charge an entrance fee and yet keep costs down for art lovers - make every ticket valid for a year (or more). Return visits then become free, and those who just want to tick off a “must-see” have to pay for the privilege.

This is a comment from a very smart reader on Rupert Crhistiansen’s blog for the Telegraph debating the merits of free admission at museums.

I am a big advocate of free admission, but I also think we should all do our part to support a museum’s success. The reader suggests that we charge an entrance fee and then make the ticket valid for a year. This is fantastic! Pay $5 once - then free for a year…. like a very low level membership.

Would this help though?
