Learning from the slums (2/2): the rediscovery | Arch Daily

This is a really interesting article on Arch Daily today by  Marco Castroni on what we can learn from slums (and yet another reminder on why I should re-read “Life and Death of Great American Cities” by Jane Jacobs).

Castroni highlights a few models of slums from throughout the world and describes briefly what we, as thinkers and learners, should take away from the efficiency of ‘slum living’.

He then goes on to show examples of contemporary architects attempting to apply the learning to modern projects.

I haven’t watched the video clip yet, but Robert Neuwirth (who spent two years living in Slums and recently spoke at the Storefront for Art & Architecture in NY on the topic) is mentioned as well.

Looking forward to clicking on all the links in this article post 9-5.
